For people with overseas clients, family, or friends, and for those planning international travel or business trips, there are surprisingly few ways to check holidays across multiple countries at once. Searching for each country's holidays one by one is tedious, and overlooking foreign holidays or business closures can disrupt work and communication. There was a need for a service that shows holidays worldwide, with accurate data, on a single calendar.
Adopted an API-first architecture in which a Django REST Framework backend acts as the single data owner, serving the same REST API to both the web and the mobile app. Holiday data covers 249 countries and regions, materialized into the database based on official government announcements so it can be verified and corrected for accuracy. The web is built with Django server-side rendering delivered through AWS CloudFront CDN, while the mobile app is built with Flutter for both iOS and Android. Features include a unified calendar that overlays color-coded holidays from multiple countries, a countdown to the next holiday, custom dates for anniversaries and personal events, and holiday reminders via Firebase Cloud Messaging at flexible timings such as one day, three days, or one week in advance. The product supports 11 languages and offline viewing of previously loaded holidays.
Released as an in-house product across three platforms: the web, the App Store, and Google Play. The service lets users check holidays for 249 countries and regions from the same data source on both web and mobile. From a registration-free unified web calendar to a mobile app with follow and reminder features, the product helps globally connected people never miss a holiday again.
